Light-asset model: The brand owner does not need to build its own factory and can focus on research and development and marketing.
Secondly is ODM: ODM (Original Design Manufacturer, OEM production)
We have our professional R & D department, we have many fashionable designs, some of our clients will choose the styles form them directly.
Definition: The factory independently completes product design, research and development, and production. The brand owner directly selects existing solutions or makes minor modifications and then sells them under its own brand.
Core features:
Factory-led design: The factory holds the intellectual property rights of the product, and the brand owner may only adjust the appearance or configuration.
"Select and brand": For example, home appliance brands choose styles from the factory's existing product library and affix their own brand.
Lower costs and higher efficiency: The brand owner does not need to invest in research and development and can quickly launch products.
How to choose?
Choose OEM: The brand needs to enhance the uniqueness of the product (such as technical barriers, design patents).
Choose ODM: Aim for rapid launch, cost control, and a lower requirement for design uniqueness.
Mixed mode in actual scenarios
Many collaborations combine the characteristics of both: For example, the brand party proposes the basic requirements, and the factory customizes and modifies based on the existing ODM scheme, forming an "ODM + OEM" model.
